This scene was inspired by Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series. I started playing around with Terragen and came up with the basic landscape. Ever since I read the Dark Tower series first back in high school I've never been able to get the image of a thinny over a lake, or a door on a lake, out of my head. So, the idea of a thinny making approach to the door dangerous...but would walking through the door be more dangerous?
All references to The Dark Tower, Roland, gunslingers, thinny, the man in black, and other elements of the world of The Dark Tower copyright Stephen King. If you haven't bought and read all 7 novels, go do it now! They're worth the cost Terrain and thinny representation by me. Door by Doorknob by The Man in Black by Bonus points if you can actually see the doorknob There on the other side of the lake was yet another door. But what could this one be for? The Three had already been drawn. Surely this doesn't lead to the Tower? Yet again, a door where no door should be, and yet there it is. And what is that...thing...out on the lake? It doesn't look like a thinny, it's too colourful and solid and...too there. But there's that damned warbling sound, like a musical saw. Yes, it may not look like one, but there isn't much doubt that the thing before them is a thinny. But why is it so different? Could this be another sign of the Tower's failing force? And what of that black figure straight ahead? |
